Bald Rock National Park

A day trip to Tenterfield wouldn’t be complete without visiting Bald Rock National Park. The giant granite boulders oddly perched across the other is absolutely eye-catching, plus wildflowers, a wide variety of animals and its rich natural surrounds make it picture-perfect scenery. Of course, the climbing to the summit serves as the highlight of your trip here.

Bald Rock National Park is a perfect photography destination especially if you want nature as your subject. It’s just fascinating seeing many birds that gather together around the picnic area and make sure you perfectly capture other beautiful creatures such as kangaroos, wallabies and reptiles that are commonly spotted along the walks. Home to more than 100 bird species, you can find crimson rosellas, eastern rosellas, pied currawongs, kookaburras, satin bowerbirds, yellow tailed thornbills, and grey fantails.

If you seek rare wildlife here, you’ll also enjoy seeing red-bellied black snake and you can also catch the tiger snake occasionally. Other frequently seen animals are also White's skink and the Cunningham. Spotted among rocks is the leaf-tailed gecko.

To make your adventure here more exciting, experience the Bald Rock Summit walking track meanders through a peaceful bush setting up to the peak of the water-streaked dome Bald Rock, which is the most massive exposed granite rock in Australia. Upon reaching the summit, you can capture wonderful panoramic views. It would also be best to be here at dawn or dusk where you can witness an outstanding light display as the granite boulders change colours beneath your feet. Make sure you don’t miss other quaint attractions around such as grey kangaroos and red-necked wallabies.

As you make your way back to the Bald Rock picnic area and campground from your long hike up to the granite dome, stop by the scenic sights along the trail as far as Girraween National Park in Queensland. The trail leads you to the base of Bald Rock covering invigorating forests of mountain gum and granite swellings.

Enjoying the rich natural surroundings of Tenterfield is truly an amazing experience and our Tenterfield Accommodation will make your trip to this town a more rewarding one. Make sure to secure your reservation now in our Motor Inn Australia as you plan your holiday here.
